Halloween, the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!
Witches!
Bats!
Vampires!
Pumpkins!
Ghosts!
The undeniable feeling of magic in the air!
Is there anything better than Halloween?
If your answer is yes, this post is not for you. We are not going to agree. Don’t get me wrong. I love the entirety of the ‘ber months, but Halloween? That’s special to me, and not just for the candy.
The whole experience of decorating, carving pumpkins, Halloween themed shows - especially the old Disney special, and dressing up!
The dressing up was the best part of it all. I was a fortunate child. My mom made my costumes for years until her work schedule no longer allowed it, and after that if I REALLY wanted a costume my grammie made it for me.
But dressing up meant I could pretend I was my favourite characters: Ariel, Belle, Raphael, Wendy the Witch, a vampire. Now that I’m older and a parent, my favourite part is still the costumes, but it’s seeing children in them. There’s such joy and excitement. My own kiddo isn’t as into Halloween as I am, but he still gets excited in the week running up to Halloween.
I suspect it’s due to the culture around Halloween in the UK. Admittedly since I moved to the UK more than a decade ago, there’s been a shift. Halloween has grown more popular, and shops no longer put Halloween items out only to take them down for Christmas items before putting the Halloween stuff back up a week or two before Halloween.
It’s still not quite the same though. There aren’t Halloween decorations in many windows. Haunted houses aren’t as much of a thing, and trick ‘r treating isn’t as widespread, but it is getting there! Halloween, after all, isn’t simply a day. It’s a lifestyle.
With that in mind, and in the spirit of Halloween treats, I’m happy to announce I’m getting closer to publishing book one of the Faultlines series. I’m currently looking at cover artists and polishing the story up, and book two is with beta readers.
